III. Vorahnungen

Ich träumt es

Ich träumt es: sonnenlose Dürre,
Die Sonne lag im Schatten und verglüht.
Ich träumt es: baumverstandne Irre,
Wir fuhren taumelnd, tödlich müd
Entlang und kommen in das Haus
In Enge, Kinder schaun heraus,

Was nützt's, die festen Dinge still zu lieben –
Es lockt und lächelt, ach so finster, komm.

III. Premonitions

I Dreamed This

I dreamed this:
Sunless aridity – shadowed was the sun,
Its glow waning.
I dreamed this: a wasteland and dead trees.
We moved along, dizzy and deadly tired,
Arrived at the house, such a narrow house
And children looked out,
Like ghosts, without joy, lacklustre.
I deeply dreamed the thirst and resignation –
I dreamed of snakes and many-coloured blossoms…

Is it reality, or myths?
Myths that have been already banned
By forebears long ago?
What use is it to love the solid things –
It smiles and wheedles, oh so sinister, come!
